My Tritech: Gary Stewart
For most of my career, I have been repairing TVs, videos and AV equipment. I always loved taking things apart and fixing them, but after more than 20 years working with the same equipment, I just wasn’t challenged anymore.
I began working at Tritech four years ago, as I knew the company would provide me with the challenge I was looking for. I started out in the batch test team, testing newly made printed circuit boards. I then moved into building the Micron products which was great experience. Subsequently, for the last three years, I have held the position of Product Assessment Technician.
In my role, I’m responsible for testing products to ensure they comply with safety and regulatory requirements. This can involve testing components from new suppliers or brand new products Tritech are developing. Essentially, I get the fun job of trying to break lots of things each day! I assess new products against a number of things such as pressure and heat to test their limits, no day is ever the same as you never know what the results will be.
As the products I’m testing are nearly all brand new, it can be challenging to create test plans as each item is so different. However, I use my experience and a set of pre-determined guidelines to plan my testing accordingly. I also spend significant time reporting the results to the relevant individuals. Depending on the product, this can be a verbal communication or an in-depth report. If the product is currently in development, there can be a certain pressure to get these results to the development team as quickly as possible so they can make any required adjustments.
I work with a great team, which I think is really important. There is always someone on hand to support or offer advice during busy times and I think that’s probably why I enjoy my role so much.
In the last few years, there is certainly a greater emphasis on doing this work efficiently but attention to detail and quality has never slipped. Quality has and always will, be a top priority for Tritech.← Back to News
